It's a town made for strolling. Small shops and many restaurants line the main street, which back onto the active San Anselmo Creek. Insalatas, Fork, and Cucina are popular dinner destinations for the gourmet.

Schools in San Anselmo are part of the Ross Valley School District serving San Anselmo, Fairfax, and Sleepy Hollow. The district includes three K through 5 elementary schools: Brookside Elementary School, Manor Elementary School and Wade Thomas Elementary School, and White Hill Middle School for grades 6th, 7th and 8th. Most middle school graduates attend Sir Francis Drake High School.
